Ideas you
Should be aware of Before Colouring:
1.Prep Up
your Hair:
Hair colouring is not a chemical-free process. Whatever the
product maybe it harms your hair slightly. So, prep up your hair is a must
before colouring. Prep up in-essence, apply a good moisturizing hair pack, hair
wash using a clarifying shampoo, apply hair conditioner, followed by hair
serum. Usually, the hair colouring makes your hair dry. So, make sure your hair
is soft, moisturized, with no split ends and frizzy-free. Although you can do
it anyway, the scale of damage will be increased.
2. Shampooing
before One or Two Days:
Before hair colouring,
leave your hair free for 24 to 48 hours, to let the natural oils secreted on
your scalp. It protects your hair strands and keeps them healthy for the post-colouring
process. If not, the healthy oils will be drained out from your scalp and make
your hair dry.
3.Choose
Right Colour:
Choosing exact colours does not depend only on the hair type,
it also depends on the skin tone too. The hair colour should fuse together with
your skin tone, which is necessary to avoid an odd look. Simply, if you love to
wear gold ornaments, then go for chocolate brown and platinum. Or else, if you
are looking stunning with silver ornaments, then try dark golden brown, warm
red or blonde. The bright shades such as red, violet, and copper are extremely
elegant colours and are the toughest to take care of. In addition, opt for a paler
shade which would be suitable for grey hair people.
Better consult a
professional colourist, they should have a clear vision about the skin tone and
various options available in hair colouring. Always go with half shades lighter
every time to get rid of damage and breakage. And it gives a natural-looking
effect too.
4.Use
Colour Treated Hair Products:
After colouring, it is advisable to use colour-treated hair
products for a long time to sustainability of hair colour and it also relieves damage.
Look up for hair products which are sulphate free, specially manufactured,
leaves your hair moisturized and protect the briskness of the shade.
5. Permanent/
Semi Permanent:
In permanent hair colouring, the
colour penetrates deeply into your hair shaft to remain the hair colour for a
long time. Gradually your hair starts growing after seven to eight weeks. At
this time, a colour touch-up is required for the roots of your hair. Perhaps, in
the semi-permanent process, the colour will not penetrate very deeply. So, it
will stay until 24 shampoos due to low root keeping capacity.
6. Wait
for the Processing Time:
Don’t rush your hair for the shower,
until the time allotted by your colourist. If it happens, there is a chance to
get a lighter hair colour.
7. Low
Maintenance Hair Colouring:
Pick a neutral shade, which gives a
specific shine and richness to the hair. There is no huge difference in the
hair as well as there is low maintenance. You might also go for ginger shade if
you want to deal with low maintenance. Or go ombre, so you only have to worry
about it once or twice a year. The extreme opposite is the red colour, which is
very hard to maintain as said above.
8. Avoid
Frequent Hair Washes:
Washing your
hair less often is good to sustain the vibrance of colour. That is two or three
times a week is enough. Washing hair daily is not recommended for colour-treated
hairs.
9.
Protect your Hair from Sun Rays:
Hair will easily absorb heat and UV
rays from the sun and makes your hair dehydrated. Also, there is more chance to
turn your hair colour fade and brassy. So do research to buy hair products with
UV protection. Use scarves and hats for better protection when you are exposed
to sunlight.
10.
Choose Good Saloon:
Find a saloon, which offers pricing
at your cost. If you are a first-time user of hair colouring, choose a good
saloon and hair colourist. They will examine your hair and explains to you
clearly the process and colour selection. `If you are not satisfied with the
hair colour on the first try, ask them to change. If possible, they will make
suitable changes.
11. Keep
Reference Photo:
Most of the time your thought will
not match the colourist, or you weren’t explained properly. Pictures will be a
good source to keep your thoughts on the same page. For example, if you prefer a
golden-blonde shade but you will get natural honey blonde instead of that and
red for purple etc.
12. Avoid
Chlorine on Colour-treated Hair:
Avoid shower caps when you are in the
swimming pool. When you bathe in the swimming pool in open hair, the chlorine
present in the water damages the hair. It is better to avoid such a mess. The copper
metal mixed in the chlorine water oxidizes your hair colour and turns to a
greenish tint, which is unattractive. The possibility of this problem happens more
in dry hair, which is more absorbent. Before bathing, use a
leave-in-conditioner or coconut oil, which acts as a resistance.
13. Use
Old Clothes:
The process of dying the hair will
be too messy and it will stain your clothes. Dress accordingly and keep a
towel.
14. DIY
Hair Colouring:
Buy a home kit with less harmful
chemicals like ammonia, peroxide, and alcohol. Then, test the colour first and
do the swatch test to avoid an allergic reaction. And apply to the hair based
on the instructions provided in the pack. Don’t grab a product based on the
picture colour available in the pack. Whereas you must pick it based on the
details given there.
15. Hot
Oil Massage:
Don’t give hot oil massage for 2 to
3 days. Once the hair colour is set, they apply hot oil massage followed by
shampooing.
